The project is born from a desire to capture the unique beauty and despair of this time. Its home currently is the virtual platform @corona.portraits on Instagram, which we use as a communal space & gallery where our stories and portraits have a place to overlap and co-habitate. The collection will be contained in a book and exhibition by the spring of 2021.
The intention of the project is to show diversity and commonality of what we are living as a way to facilitate connection and diminish isolation. As well as to exist as a document to review this global experience.
We also want to stimulate creativity by exposing adaptive skills in action. People are doing all sort of crazy things to stay shaped, sane, connected. We can inspire each other. And hopefully sharing the load of misery and transformation this is bringing, we will make the weight lighter and transmute it with company and humour.
This project is collaborative in nature. The drawings are based on pictures submitted by co-creators and they are published with a short text where people have a chance to express personal challenges and the strategies to alleviate them.
